Woodwind instruments from Grenadilla / Mpingo / African blackwood have a high probability of cracking in the same places. This is not caused by a defect in the wood or in the manufacture, but is a result of the dampness when playing and is a natural event. If it were a bug in the wood, why should it always happen in the same place? No manufacturer could or would willingly and repeatedly place the faulty location where the tone holes are.

Many cracks are only superficial and have no influence on the playing ability or the sound of the instrument. If a crack goes through a tone hole, the instrument has a noticeable handicap. Instruments that already have L&P tone hole crack prevention are better protected. In all cases, proper crack repair is carried out free of charge. According to our judgment, a replacement for the joint is only granted within the first year.

Grenadilla wood, a member of the Jacaranda / Rosewood / Rosewood family, has been a rare and endangered species since 2017. See the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora. In this sense, surface or cosmetic cracks are not entitled to replacement joints.

Exceptions
1. Instruments that were not purchased from Lohff & Pfeiffer or Lohff & Pfeiffer USA are excluded from our guarantee for cracks and intonation.

2 All warranty repairs must either be carried out by our team or authorized by us following a written proposal from an external repair company.
