Tenon threads

Yarn
In recorders, bassoons and historical instruments you can still occasionally find tenons covered with yarn. These have advantages and disadvantages.

Benefits
The diameter of soft woods can change quickly. The cone can be quickly adjusted by the experienced musician with the help of a thin cotton thread.
If the pin is too loose, you wind a few turns around it and seal it with grease.
If it is too tight, you can unwind some yarn and then seal it with grease or wax.

Disadvantages
It takes some time and practice to make the adjustment described above. Often yarn packages are not particularly airtight, which can make them difficult to address. Cork tapping is therefore much more flexible.
